Challenge

I was chosen as one of 30 participants for this challenge, in which we were given a prompt of consulting Accenture’s non-profit partner, Covenant House, on how to improve their homelessness support program to support youth from falling back to homelessness after leaving the program.  Our task was to create an innovation that would ensure youth leaving the housing program would not fall back to homelessness within 8-19 months after leaving the program,

Identifying key issue.

We started by conducting more research on the topic and why the majority of youth fall back into homelessness. We found that a lack of employment and mentorship after leaving the program were key reasons for why a lot of youth fall back into homelessness.

The Solution.

We proposed a solution of an online platform that would provide students with resources and the mentorship available to gain skills for long-term careers.

Projected Impact.

After proposing this solutions, we made projections about the scale and impact of this platform. Based on the current growth of current online platforms, we predicted that the long term employment of the participants would increase from 54% to 84%. Overall, this experience gave me a taste of the positive impact that can be made through creative problem-solving, and I got a taste for some analytical skills for consulting along the way.
